STEPS TO WRITE A LETTER OF APPLICATION (U5 SB p.66)

1. Decide what company do you want to write to. What relevant skills do you have (ICT skills, technical skills, organisational and team work skills, artistic skills, etc.)? Think about what information you want from them (information about the company or the position you're going to hold, the salary, etc.) and what to send with the letter (CV).

2. Write a first draft. Include information about your work experience and personal qualities. You should have paragraphs covering:

a) Introduction:'Dear Sir/Madam,'
    Why are you writing?: 'I am writing to apply for a work experience position / job as a .... at                  Universal computers.'
b) What you are doing at the moment?: 'At the moment I am studying.../working as a...'
     What do you want to in the future?: 'In the future I want to study/ become a...'
c) Your relevant skills and interests: 'I have been interested in ... since I was....years old' / 'I can use...'
     'I am good at...'
d) Your personal qualities: 'I am a hard-working person'. / 'I am responsible, kind, good at working in     teams, emphatic, organised, sociable, adaptable, careful, communicative, considerate, diplomatic,       dynamic, determined, easy going, emotional, energetic, enthusiastic, funny, generous, intelligent,       independent, optimistic, passionate, patient, persistent, pro-active, self-confident, ...'
e) Request for information: 'I would be very grateful if you could send me more information about...'
f) An ending: 'I am enclosing my CV and a reference from...' / 'I am available to attend an interview'/
    'I look forward to hearing from you'. / 'Yours faithfully,'
g) Your signature

3. Check your writing: Check you use:
    a) job application letter expressions
    check your:
    b) grammar
    c) spelling
    d) vocabulary
    e) punctuation
    f) style: YOU MUST USE A FORMAL STYLE, WITHOUT CONTRACTIONS OR VERY   
        INFORMAL EXPRESSIONS.

4. Write your final version and hand in your work.
