PROJECT A: 'My poster about Changing Places'

After reading the graded reader by Alan Hines, entitled Changing Places (Dominoes Starter), the students of 1st ESO have  done a book review.
Now they are ready to start a Changing Places project.

To do it, follow the stages:

1. Go to the book on pages 40-41 and do the exercises.

2. Choose a famous person (film star, singer, sportswoman/man, activist, etc.) or another person that you admire and look for information and photos about her/him: what does she/he usually do?

3. Write about what you usually do in your daily life (USE THE PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE).

4. Now imagine that you are changing your life with this celebrity and write about what you are doing now. (USE THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE)

For example: 'This week I'm changing places with ....(Natalie Portman)... BECAUSE...(she is my favourite actress and I love her films). Now, I'm staying at a hotel because I'm starring a film, but tomorrow I'm travelling to Africa because I'm also working for an NGO to help poor people'

5. When you finish writing the draft, you can start checking it several times to avoid possible mistakes. Then, start the making of your poster: bring a posterboard, a photo of you and of the celebrity you are changing places with, start writing the final version on the posterboard and stick the photos, etc.  You can also draw pictures and decorate the posterboard.

6. Finally, rehearse (focus on pronunciation and intonation) and memorise the information of the posterboard to present it orally to the rest of your classmates:
  • During your presentation, answer briefly these questions: 'what do you usually do?', 'who are you changing places with' and 'why?' and 'what are you doing now?'
  • YOU HAVE A MAX. OF 5 MINUTES and YOU CAN'T READ THE POSTERBOARD!

Remember! You must present  a well-organised, well-written, clean, visually attractive poster to your teacher when you finish the oral presentation. This task will be counted as part of the mark of the subject.
