After reading the graded reader by Christine Lindop, entitled The Skateboarder (Dominoes Quick Starter), the students of 2nd ESO have done a book review.
Now that they know that for Hannah- the main character- the 'Go Skateboarding Day' is very important, they are ready to start a project about their important day.
To do it, follow these steps:
1. Do the exercises on pages 26 and 27 from the book.
2. Find out an important day or choose one of the following ones:
- World Snowboarding Day - December 18th
- International Surfing Day - June 21st
- International Dance Day - April 29th
- International Day of Peace - September 21st
- International Working Women's Day - March 8th
- International Men's Day - November 19th
- International Literacy Day - November 17th
3. Look for information about
the date you have chosen. Then answer the following questions (pgs. 26-27):
- When is it?
- Where is its home?
- In which country/countries can you find it now?
- Where do people meet?
- Why do they come?
- What do people give money for on this day?
- What do people do?
- Why did you choose this day?, etc.
4. Write your draft about your important day.
5. When you finish, check it several
times to avoid possible mistakes.
6. Then, start the making of your poster: bring a posterboard, photos
and pictures, start writing the final version on the posterboard and stick
the photos, etc. You can also draw pictures and decorate the posterboard.
7. Finally, rehearse (focus on pronunciation and intonation) and
memorise the information of the poster to present it orally to the rest of your
classmates:
- During your presentation, answer briefly these questions: 'What is the event?', 'When is it?', 'Where is it?' and 'What do people do?'
- YOU HAVE A MAX. OF 5 MINUTES and YOU CAN'T READ THE POSTERBOARD!
Remember! You must present a well-organised, well-written,
clean, visually attractive poster to your teacher when you finish the oral
presentation. This task will be counted as part of the mark of the subject.
HALLOWEEN!!
We have learnt some basic vocabulary and watched an excerpt of Tim Burton's movie: ' The Nightmare before Christmas' (1993).
Would you like to sing the song 'This is Halloween'?
Here you have the video and lyrics to practice!
