GROUP PROJECT 1: TRAILER of The Skating Detective
After having read and worked with the graded reader by Ellen Hopkins,
entitled The Skating Detective (Burlington Books, 2005). The
students of 4th ESO have done a book review.
Now, my suggestion to start the second term is to shoot a trailer or a
scene of the book.
PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS: Imagine that you are a Hollywood director and you
want to make a film about this book. Follow these steps:
1. Create your workgroup (filming crew). Min. 5 and max. 7
people.
2. Join and distribute the roles and tasks of each of the members of
your group: director, producer, actors and actresses, etc.
3. Join and write together the script.
- It
must be clear, well-written, grammatically correct and of course IN
ENGLISH!
- It
must be about the plot of The skating Detective. You
don't have to copy any lines literally from the book if you don't want to.
You can be creative and change the original text, but in any case,
make sure that your adaptation refers to the book.
- Include
any notes involving the costumes the actors and actresses are wearing,
what they are doing or saying, the setting and background of the scene,
etc.
(For example: 'It's Monday afternoon. Jonah's at the school. He's
wearing jeans and he's doing some tricks with his new skates.
Suddenly, a boy appears and greets him very warmly: -"Hi dude!
What's up?')
- Remember
that you must work equally.
- After
writing the draft of your script, check it several
times (to correct possible mistakes) and finally, write and hand
in the last version to your teacher: it must be one -per group- neatly
presented and well-written script!
4. Arrange a meeting with your workgroup, try to get the attrezzo you
need and rehearse and record your trailer or scene with the help of a
videocamera or a mobile phone, etc.
- The recording should last
between 1 and 4 min. approx.
- To get some ideas you
can check this link from another's teacher blog, where you can see videos
about this book made by her students. But please don't
copy their ideas, be original: http://mrsleonordeguzman.blogspot.com.es/
5. Finally show the recording to your teacher (bring it
in a USB) before showing it to the rest of the class. You
can bring the recording in any format compatible with the school's PC
(.mp4, .wmv, etc.)
- IMPORTANT: Offensive,
aggressive or inappropriate videos will not be shown in class
and will result in failing the task.
- So: take seriously this task,
work hard and be respectful of your classmates and their
work. Work always cooperatively and if you don't agree with
someone, just come to an agreement with him/her without
arguing.
6. Your group project will be counted as part of the mark of this
subject and the best video will be uploaded in this blog.
Good luck and good work! :)
CHRISTMAS TASK: a Friends episode
Last
Christmas we watched an episode from the TV serie Friends entitled
'The Holiday Armadillo' (chapter 10, season 7) and we asnwered some questions
in class. But here I give you some more questions, in case you want to continue
thinking about it...
- Have you ever watched Friends?
- Do you like the TV show? Why or why not?
- Who is your favourite character?
- Did you like the chapter?
- Which is the most hilarious scene of the chapter according to you?
(For example: when Ross dresses up as an armadillo or when Joey plays the
fool, etc.)
- How do you celebrate Christmas? Do you celebrate the Christian
Festivity or the Jewish one, etc.? (For example: I celebrate the Christian
Festivity going to the 'Midnight Mass' or Missa del Gall...or
I celebrate the Jewish festivity: Hanukkah...I don't celebrate Christmas,
etc.)
HALLOWEEN!!
What are the origins of Halloween?
Where
does this celebration come from?
Why
did people say 'trick or treat'?
These
and other questions will be answered in the following text:
Dear
students,
Here
you can find the link to watch the ending of the scary story we started to
watch last week in class.
Feel
free to comment on it:
Do
you believe that this is a real story?
Do
you believe in ghosts or any other kind of paranormal phenomena?
Do
you think the story is scary or not?
I can hardly believe that it's a real story, but I believe in paranormal phenomena, and sometimes my fear is caused because I think there are ghosts.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the video, the history isn't scary, but is different when you live the situation.
I completely agree with you, Nadá. I guess there might be an explanation for paranormal phenomena that maybe we don't know, if such a thing exists. Thank you for your participation and comment! :)
DeleteI believe in the hosts and the paranormal phenomena, is so stupid think that we are alone in this world, in many ocasions we ignored the situations, the strange situations than we have in our houses for fear, is more easy ignore that try to give and answer.
DeleteI think that is a real history, and in Spain we have more of this histories but the people don't explain it for fear to the people think that are crazy.
This history is a very scary, you need think: would happen if this happened in your house? In the tv is very safe, but put yourself in their place, maybe you will fall in a depression.
I don't really know if these stories are true, Joel. Hope they are not! Thanks for sharing your opinion :)
DeleteThis is the link to the trailer of the group: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcdiOxg-3oA
